Fire Codes
The San Francisco Fire Code prohibits the propping open of fire rated corridor (suite) and stairwell doors. The purpose of this fire code is to insure the safety of the occupants of the building in the event of fire. The doors are rated for two (2) hours and provide a barrier between the occupants and the fire.
(Note: In addition to the fire code, propping open rear suite doors may create a security problem for your company by permitting uninvited visitors to bypass your reception area. The heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is also affected since propping doors open causes an imbalance in the system, which forces the equipment to work harder. This increases energy use and building operating expenses, which are passed through to the tenants of the building.
Municipal Health Code
475 Brannan is designated a Non-Smoking facility.
This policy is instituted in accordance with Section 1, Part III, Chapter V, and Article 19C of the San Francisco Municipal Health Code (copy available from the management office). In order to provide nonsmokers with a smoke free environment, 475 Brannan requests that any persons entering the building refrain from smoking.
Effective February 1994, San Francisco's Municipal Health code was further amended (Article 19E) to prohibit smoking in all enclosed areas, including private offices.
"No Smoking" notices have been posted in the restrooms and stairwells.
The ash urns of the building will remain in place for use by smokers. Please request that your co-workers utilize the urns. This helps the daytime maintenance person in his/her duties.
